Take Stress Out of the Home Selling Process
Selling your home can be an extremely stressful process. Preparing for showings, packing your belongings, and the wait for the perfect offer can create anxiety. Our client, Chris Gaggero, offers these tips for keeping stress to a minimum.
“I share these tips with my clients:
1. Rent a storage unit. I recently sold two, basically identical condos on the top floor of a six-flat. One was very sparely furnished; the other was not. The first unit sold within a week, and for $10,000 more than the second. With fewer furnishings, buyers are more easily able to imagine themselves living in your home: with your things in the way, buyers have a harder time. Also, less “stuff” in general makes it easier to tidy up for showings or an open house. And your kids will love rediscovering toys that were kept in storage!

2. Hire a full-service realtor. If you’re certain your home will sell quickly, if you know exactly what it’s worth, and if you’re not daunted by the paperwork, you might consider selling your home on your own. However, a good full-service realtor will reduce stress by guiding you the process, from filing disclosures and advertising your home, to negotiating a contract and dealing with an inspection. Having an expert who is a good listener at the end of the phone line can relieve a lot of stress! Plus a marketing-savvy realtor will help you get a good price that covers most or all of the cost of the commission.
