Rituals to Relax and Re-connect
Mindfulness is an important part of overall wellness. However, in our fast-paced world, we are challenged daily to slow down and take a few moments for ourselves.
Though the word ritual might bring to mind an image of nymphs dancing in the moonlight, rituals are actually more common than one might think. For example, the routines we go through every morning are rituals, but most people don't stop to acknowledge them. When we do, we are able to have a more tranquil and aware start to the day.
According to Carine Fabius, author of Ceremonies for Real Life (Wildcat Canyon Press, 2002), "Rituals are valuable because they allow you to focus on what you're trying to achieve." She says, "When we can use our energy to focus on something we want, we have a higher chance of achieving that goal."
Besides bringing us greater focus and self-awareness, rituals create space for us to immerse ourselves in mind, body, and spirit and to relax and bask in the moment.

When considering rituals, don't underestimate the power of sound and scent.
Aromatherapy or soft music can help us escape distractions and immerse ourselves in the moment. These also help create a separate time and space, to signal our bodies that this time is special.
A ritual can be anything you do consistently and consciously. Your wake-up routine or a crossword while commuting can become a ritual. Setting aside a quiet moment with the first sip of coffee every morning can help center us.
Consider changing your routines to rituals. By helping clear our minds, we can focus on achieving wellness and other goals.
